How long does a bathroom remodel takes?

February 13, 2023

Most homeowners now find joy and pleasure in renovating bathrooms unless they are professional designers creating refurbishment projects. A bathroom will breathe new life into your drab bathroom, whether the fixtures need replacing or the interior design is outdated.

Aside from the astronomical repair costs, the unexpected delays and sound design choices add up. The project will only proceed on schedule if you set a deadline for completion. Numerous factors, such as inefficient staff, delayed delivery of materials, structural design issues, etc., can reduce the effectiveness of a project.

People usually want their bathrooms to be in working order because they are one of the most structural parts of the house. We've gathered all the information you need to help you create a realistic bathroom renovation schedule.

What Are The Factors Influencing Completion Time?

To make your bathroom renovation as inexpensive as possible, you must plan. Here are a few more common factors you need to manage before, during, and after a remodel.

  • Are you renovating for sale or a living?
  • What is the amount of your budget?
  • What are the repair priorities?
  • Are you ready to take on some of the responsibilities of renovating your bathroom?

Bathroom renovation timeline

Out with the old (2 days)

Your current bathroom has been completely torn down, all plumbing has been removed and thrown in the trash, the tiles have been removed from the walls, the floor has been raised, and a thorough initial cleaning has been done. Let's hope the demolition doesn't reveal any invisible structural damage caused by leaks or nasty surprises like asbestos.

Making good (2 days)

It may be necessary to make a few repairs before starting new work. Filling holes in walls, repairing loose or damaged floors, and moving any wiring or piping in the wrong place are all possible steps in this process.

Plumbing (2 days)

The plumber places the trash and runs the water to the appropriate places. This process may take longer if bathrooms, showers, wash basins, and toilets are relocated to best use the available space.

Electrical fittings (2 days)

An electrician runs cords to areas with lights, a shaving point, and a shower. It may be necessary to upgrade the circuit breaker, connect and test new wiring to existing circuits, and cut and finish new channels in the walls. Connecting any switches or other fixtures occurs later. Before starting plastering work, it is necessary to check the electrical work. If the inspector is not available for several days, this may result in a delay.

Plastering (2-4 days plus drying before painting)

Any damaged surfaces must be repaired before plasterers begin work. To hide any pipes or other surface fittings, they can sometimes create a "drywall." Before applying the last layer of plaster, the initial layer must dry for a day.

Painting (2 -3 days)

The plaster must be completely dry before the painter can begin work. As a result, the schedule may increase by several days. In the new application, a specific water mixture is used as the initial coat of paint before the final color is applied in one or two coats.

Tiling (2-3 days)

The number of tiles to be laid determines how long it will take to apply them. Tiling can take as little as a day if you only install a backsplash around the wash basin and a tile or wall panel in the shower. However, larger areas with complex connections or intricate designs may take two to three days.

Fitting and flooring (2-3 days)

The most enjoyable aspect of the job for all parties is bathtub, shower, toilet, lighting, blinds, cabinets, and accessories can now be installed, wired, and checked by a plumber and electrician. The flooring can be laid after everything is in place. Vinyl flooring can be installed in hours, while hardwood flooring requires complex trimming around fixtures and can take a day.

As you can see, this timeline allows you to complete each step immediately and takes up to 21 business days. However, it is easy to see how minor problems or delays at the start of the next phase can quickly increase the completion time to six weeks or more. You'll find the wait was worth it because a new bathroom is an excellent investment for your home.
